באביב | Ba-aviv | In Springtime (1912)

Artist: Abraham Zvi Idelsohn (1882-1938)

Lyrics: From Ha-Zamir

Tune: Ben-Yehuda

Hebrew translation (PDF)

This text was published in Ha-Zamir (Odessa 1903: p. 7.) Two different melodies were published in Ta'amey Zimra le-Shiree Ha-Zamir. The first was composed by Cantor Pinchas Minkowsky (Warsaw, 1904: pp. 31-32); the second is an adaptation of W.A. Mozart's melody (Warsaw, 1904: p. 32).

In “Ba-aviv”, the annual return of spring brings warmth and light. Children dance, and sing: "la, la; la, la".

Idelsohn (Ben-Yehuda) composed a happy melody in a major key.
