Lyrics: From "Ha-Zamir"

Tune: Ben-Yehuda

Hebrew translation (PDF)

The text of this song was published in the second volume of Ha-Zamir (Odessa, 1903: p. 17).

“Ahoti” presents a dialogue between a boy and his sister, Hana. Hana "sits in his heart, day and night", and he asks her to pay him rent. Hana answers that she has no money, but that she can pay him with a kiss. If the kiss is not payment enough, she adds, he can return the kiss to her.

Idelsohn (Ben-Yehuda) composed a melody to the text in a major key.
